Banking

Bookstore

The UC San Diego Bookstore is located at the Price Center, near Geisel Library. The Bookstore offers a wide variety of products and services to the University community, including shopping via computer and fax. Hours may vary at the beginning or end of quarters and on holidays, but are generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday Noon - 5:00 p.m. (with free parking), A complete list of services is available at:

Campus Tours

The UC San Diego Visitors Program conducts campus tours for visitors, new faculty members or faculty being recruited, new employees, and friends of the University. These 90-minute tours are led by trained volunteer tour guides and are offered every Sunday afternoon, starting at 2:00 p.m., leaving from the South Gilman Information Pavilion, at the South end of campus. On the FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH they offer a walking tour for those who wish to walk while learning about our beautiful campus. This tour is a leisurely stroll through the heart of campus. Childcare

The UC San Diego Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) provides care for children between the ages of 3 months to 6-1/2 years. For more information, please call (858) 246-0900, weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or access the ECEC web site at:  http://child.ucsd.edu 

Direct Deposit

Newly hired UCSD employees must fill out a Payroll Wage Distribution Request form, indicating whether they wish to receive paychecks and reimbursements by paper check or by direct deposit (Surepay). This form is available at: http://www-bfs.ucsd.edu/pay/forms/pdf/dispo.pdf .  Alternatively they may determine their wage distribution by logging on to their accounts on online to the University of California’s At Your Service Online tool: https://atyourserviceonline.ucop.edu/ayso/

Direct Deposit will automatically deposit your net paycheck or any non-payroll payments and all types of reimbursements (including travel) by a direct deposit to either your checking or savings account. Direct deposit will take effect within eight weeks from the date Payroll receives your registration request. You will receive a paper check in the interim. Once the deposit has been initiated by Disbursements, you will receive a confirmation document at the same address that you have received your check. Emeritus Faculty

Those faculty members who are considering retirement should contact Ms. Jo Morales in the Benefits Office regarding pre-retirement counseling. Ms. Morales can provide estimates of retirement income, information regarding continuation of health and welfare benefits, and information on Medicare. Ms. Morales can be reached by phone at 534-5244 or by e-mail at jmorales@ucsd.edu. Campus organizations that serve faculty members with emeritus status include the UC San Diego Emeriti Association and the UC San Diego Retirement Association. More information on the UC San Diego Emeriti Association is available online at: http://emeriti.ucsd.edu/ . Interested emeriti may receive information about the UCSD Retirement Association by calling 534-4724.

Employee Accommodation Counseling & Consulting Services

The Accommodation Counseling & Consulting Services is located in Suite 348, Torrey Pines Center South. This office sometimes has funds available to assist in the purchase of equipment that is deemed medically necessary. Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP)

The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is located in Suite 406, Torrey Pines Center South. FSAP is part of the UC San Diego Human Resources Department. It provides counseling and confidential assistance to employees and their families. The FSAP is a confidential assessment and referral service provided by UC San Diego for the purpose of assisting employees whose personal problems may be adversely affecting their work performance. These services are provided at no cost to employees and their immediate families. For information or appointments, call 534-5523. Faculty Club

The Ethnic Studies Department holds membership in the Faculty Club for departmental business (e.g., faculty recruitment). If you would like to purchase an individual membership, please contact the Faculty Club. If you are not a member of the Faculty Club but would like to use the facility, you may borrow the departmental card from Samira or Damarys. Please bring your receipts back with the card and indicate to which index the expense should be charged or you can reimburse the department for the expense.

  • Off-Campus Housing
    Off-campus housing rental information is available from the Off-Campus Housing Office, located at the Student Center, Building A, Suite 200. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and holidays. The Off-Campus Housing Office offers an online database of apartments and homes for rent, as well as links to newspaper rental listings and information on landlord/tenant rights. Libraries

Motorist Assistance Program (MAP)

Provides the following services for drivers stranded on campus (excluding the Coast, La Jolla del Sol, and Mesa Apartments) or at the Medical Center location:

  • Battery jump
  • Lockout assistance (standard locks only)
  • Low tire inflation
  • Gas

Participating motorists sign a waiver releasing the university from any liability in the event of vehicle damage. The service is not available on university holidays.

New Faculty Receptions

The Chancellor hosts an annual New Faculty Welcome Reception and New Faculty orientation session and Luncheon each fall for all new faculty. These events typically occur in the first two weeks of October. Samira will contact the new faculty with event announcements and provide a list of names to the Chancellor’s office.  Invitations are sent out in early September to new faculty from the Chancellor’s Office.

Parking and Transportation

Parking permits can be purchased through the Transportation and Parking Services Office, located at the Gilman Parking Structure. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Sexual Harassment

The University of California, San Diego, is committed to creating and maintaining a community in which all persons who participate in UC San Diego programs and activities can work and learn together in an atmosphere free of all forms of harassment, exploitation, or intimidation, including sexual harassment.

All academic appointees must complete two hours of sexual harassment prevention training every two years. New faculty must complete two hours of training within six months of their hire date. Every member of the UC San Diego community should be aware that UC San Diego will not tolerate sexual harassment and that such behavior is prohibited both by law and by UC San Diego policy. Retaliation against a person who brings a complaint of sexual harassment is also strictly prohibited and may result in separate disciplinary action. It is UC San Diego's intention to take whatever action may be needed to prevent, correct, and if necessary, discipline behavior that violates this policy. All members of the UC San Diego community, including faculty, students, and staff, are responsible for insuring an environment free of sexual harassment.

The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) provides advice and assistance in investigating and resolving complaints of discrimination and harassment. Smoke and Tobacco-Free UCSD

As an institution committed to providing a safe and healthful environment and in compliance with California's State law the University of California, San Diego prohibits smoking in all UCSD facilities. Effective September 1, 2013 all UC San Diego locations shall be smoke and tobacco-free. Smoking, use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products are strictly prohibited. This Smoke and Tobacco-free Policy applies to all UC San Diego facilities, owned or leased, regardless of location. No smoking is permitted in any indoor or outdoor area. The Smoke and Tobacco-free Policy also covers all University parking lots, private residential space, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, “Health Sciences Academic

Campus” and the “UC San Diego Medical Center” complexes in Hillcrest and La Jolla.  

Sale and advertising of tobacco products are prohibited in University of California-owned and occupied buildings.

Exceptions to the Smoke and Tobacco-free policy may be granted for the purpose of basic and clinical research studies approved by the UC San Diego Institutional Review Board.

Substance Abuse Policy

UC San Diego is dedicated to maintaining a workplace free from the illegal use, possession, or distribution of controlled substances. Unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of controlled substances by University employees in the workplace or on University business is prohibited.

University employees shall not use illegal substances or abuse legal substances in a manner that impairs performance of assigned tasks. Employees found to be in violation of this policy may be subject to corrective action, up to and including dismissal, under applicable University policies and collective bargaining agreements. Alternatively, employees may be required to participate satisfactorily in an employee support program.

The University of California recognizes drug and alcohol dependency as treatable conditions and offers employee support programs for employees with substance-dependency problems.
