At the system wide level, governance is shared by The University of California Board of Regents, the President of the University of California and staff, the chancellors of the ten UC campuses and staff, and the permanent faculty members of the Academic Senate.
At UC San Diego, all departments, units, and programs are assigned to a particular Vice Chancellorial area. The Ethnic Studies Department, as well as all academic departments, is under Academic Affairs. The Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (EVCAA) is Dr. Paul Drake. The Social Sciences Dean is Dean Caroll Padden (effective October 1, 2014, Ex. 4-6073. The Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (EVCAA) is Dr. Elizabeth Simmons who reports to the Chancellor of UCSD, Dr. Pradeep Khosla.
