The Ethnic Studies Department at UC San Diego is partnering with the Little Saigon Foundation of San Diego, founded by Frank Vuong,  B.A., Ethnic Studies, 2008, to raise funds for a Contemporary Vietnamese American Studies Fellowship (3293).   • Mohamed Abumaye, PhD 2017, has accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Sociology at California State University San Marcos, starting Fall 2017.

  • Susan (Su-Shuan) Chen, PhD 2017, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Political Science at Long Beach City College.

  • Malathi Iyengar, PhD 2017, has accepted a tenure-track teaching position at the College of San Mateo, starting Fall 2017

  • Marilisa Navarro, PhD 2017, has accepted an Assistant Professor position in African American Studies in the College of Sciences, Health, and Liberal Arts at the University of Philadelphia, starting Fall 2017.

  • Linh Nguyen, PhD 2016, has accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of American Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington, Seattle, starting Fall 2017.

  • Jason Magapo Perez, PhD 2016, has accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of English at California State University-San Bernardino, starting Fall 2016.

  • Cathleen Kiyomi Kozen, PhD 2016, has been awarded the Ralph Henry Gabriel Dissertation Prize from the American Studies Association, for her dissertation “Justice and Its Others: On the Politics of Redress for Japanese Latin Americans.".  Established in 1974, this prize has been awarded annually since 1987 by the Association for the best dissertation in American Studies. Cathleen is currently conducting postdoctoral/follow-up data collection in order to turn her dissertation into a book masuscript.

  • Christina Carney, PhD 2016, has accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Black Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies Department at the University of Missouri, starting Fall 2016.

  • Angela Morrill, PhD 2016, has been awarded a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Davis, starting Fall 2016.
